Anton Benzon
Anton
Benzon was born to a family of artists on 18 March 1944. Being the son of
mother Elize Laidler, a watercolour artist and of father Johan Oldert, famous
South African landscape artist, Benzon gives new meaning to the phrase “born to
paint”.
Even though he didn’t have a strong
relationship with his father, Oldert was the one who introduced Benzon to his
best friend, the Italian artist, Titta Fascotti, who became his mentor and
tutor. Anton Benzon implements his talent in landscape paintings using
oil to capture the scenery of Natal and the Eastern Cape with his distinctive
style of brushwork.
His work reflects a harmonious balance
between style, composition and colour, brilliantly portraying the warmth and
tranquillity of the South African landscape.
